Let's Play Xenosaga: Episode I PT107 - Playing a Deathly Game With Mintia
In this episode, I fight the other superboss, the gnosis Mintia. You can fight her any time after the Federation Invasion. Have MOMO in the lead, then head for City Sector 26 in the Kukai Foundation. Head to the right vacant space in the Ironman bar by walking to it from the Treasure Inn. Mintia will appear and lead MOMO into a challenge. Accept and get ready!
Preparations should include:
- A Lv. 30+ Party
- Lots of healing items/Medica Rest/Refine/Revert
- Jr. with the Shield Armor, Bravesoul, and in the front row, MOMO and whomever else stay in the back row(with someone behind Jr.)
- Double Buster can be recommended(which is what I used with the Commander's Crest), but the Bravesoul is far more effective; this is my only real mistake
Mintia has 7,777 Max HP and likes to play with two rules: do not attack her with male characters and do not use A.G.W.S. Mintia LOVES Ether attacks and has moderate Ether Defense. While being airborne, only Far attacks can harm her and all but Jr.'s Far attacks are Ether based, so they won't do a lot of damage.
Her main attack is Dark Star, a moderately powerful Ether attack that does about 200-250 damage to a single target. She also has a version that knocks you to the back row. Her Dark Snake attack inflicts Attack Poison, which is a variation of Poison. Attack Poison only takes effect if you attack: doing anything else will not cause you to take damage. Attack Ethers do not count toward Attack Poison. She can use Shadow Eye to lower your accuracy and Special Chains to disable your attacks(namely your techs).
Her biggest attacks involve her pet monster, Bibo. Whenever she summons him, one of two things happen. If the heart that appears is blue, she will target one character and reduce their HP to 1 and at the same time drain the damage back to Mintia. If the heart that appears is red and upside down, she will target everyone and inflict moderate damage to them.
The strategy here involves Jr., his Far physical attacks, and the Bravesoul. As you attack Mintia with a male character, she will always counter them. First, she will use Dark Snake to inflict Attack Poison, then use the Dark Star that knocks you to the back row, then she'll ALWAYS use Blue-heart Bibo to drain your HP on the male character as every counter from then on. Putting the Shield Armor on Jr. will prevent Mintia from inflicting status. Keep Jr. at 1 HP so Mintia can't take your HP on counters while the Bravesoul does the damage for you. Takes a while, though. Revive Jr. when necessary.
Once Mintia goes down, you win the Penguin Rod for MOMO; you can also get a rare Craft Apron as a rare steal/drop. MOMO also gets the Dark Scepter Tech, which turns gnosis into gemstones you can sell, though there are other items you can get through this.
