And here's the info we previously lacked:

Press x to switch lethality mode to kill as soon as you start the game. STAY IN KILL. There's no reason to ever switch out.

Press i to access inventory and learn more about your weapons.

There's no penalty for killing civilians.

All clothing in game prevents 1 damage to your character when you're hit. The other 2 stats associated were for Coolness and Disguise, but Santiago suspects these were unimplemented.

Finally, here's all the stats for all weapons, as best I could figure them out. "Spread" below means the breadth of the shot, possibly catching others in the blast, and may also play into inaccuracy of weapon (more spread = less accurate) though exactly how this plays out I'm not sure.

Bergmann MP18: Dmg 2 per bullet, range 5, spread 3, 5 bullets per attack.
Thompson M1921: Dmg 3 to 6 per bullet, range 6, spread 3, 6 bullets per attack.
MP38: Dmg 4 to 12 per bullet, range 6, spread 3, 6 bullets per attack.
MP40: Dmg 5 to 15 per bullet, range 7, spread 3, 6 bullets per attack.
