Our next stop was the Devonian-Carboniferous auxiliary boundary section in Nanbian village. In simple terms, it's a place in the rock that marks a clear change between the two time periods. Getting here was difficult. Our bus was much too large to make its way through the narrow streets of the village. While we were stopped, figuring out what to do, we waved at three village boys playing outside. They got very excited and started chasing after our bus, collecting even more of their friends on the way. When the bus was forced to turn around using a narrow space between two buildings, the boys watched and danced to the noise that the bus would make when it turned around.
Finally, after some help from the villagers, we reached the boundary. This is where the real fun started. The mosquitoes here were incredible. Virtually everyone was being eaten alive. In the video, one guy shows off his mosquito-ravaged leg. We didn't spend much time near the boundary because the mosquitoes were so bad, but we were there long enough for the village children to catch up to us again. They seemed to be playing some kind of game where they needed to run away from us because we were evil invaders. Upon leaving the location, we passed by even more of the children on their bikes. Clearly we were quite an attraction for this small village.
