Courtesy of UsagiDood (originally SoniFoXx) for inventing this friggin' mad idea! The way this works is that we use an unused hand bone for Sonic and made that control the secondary hand pose. As you can see here, Sonic's hands are nice and relaxed and when he starts running, the animation switches the hand model to his closed fist model.
This technique will be used for Dash Adventure 2 as well as Modern SA2.
