A little guide on how to make high quality local recordings of games using OBS and what kind of performance and quality you can expect, plus some comparisons to Fraps, another piece of recording software that I've used in the past.

My suggestions:
Under settings - advanced, set the x264 CPU preset to ultrafast. This will drastically reduce OBS's CPU usage at the cost of a minor reduction in quality.
