"Logic and Islam" Fails a Pretty Basic Analogy on Several Fronts
This short video attempts to make a bold claim through analogy - the existence of God is as obvious as the existence of the Sun.
Except, of course, it isn't. We can see the Sun. We can feel the warmth from the Sun. We can measure the distance to the Sun. We can measure the size of the Sun. We have a good idea of where the Sun is at in its life cycle and what will happen to it next.
The light from the Sun only takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach us and we have a decent idea of what to expect if the Sun were to stop shining any time soon. We'd be dead if it happened and we still on Earth, but we know what to expect, and we've never seen it.
What if we ask about a different star, like Methuselah at 190.7 light-years away, the oldest known star, or Earendel, observed thanks to gravitational lensing whose light takes 12.9 billion years to reach us by current estimates? Are they still shining? Would we need proof is someone claimed they were?
So, when I'm told I don't need proof of God because God is the proof, I'm left asking what God is proof of? Of course, the answer he purports to give begs the question it attempts to answer and I'm still an atheist as a consequence.
