This illustration shows my concept for a fictional civilization of Nilotic origin hidden deep in the Sudd marshlands in what is now the East African country of South Sudan. The kingdom's capital rests atop a mesa rising from the swamp, but the way in has been carved into the mesa's side with a pair of black- and gold-painted sculptures (inspired by Egypt's Abu Simbel) sitting beside it as symbolic guardians.

The background music is from the soundtrack for the game "The Settlers II".
