Hi guys, long expected video on Grand Theft Auto: 5 !!!! Now to get this game to run some prepping steps were needed. First, this game is running via CrossOver translation Second, a "modified" version of the game was needed in order to avoid the Rockstar propaganda. Third, I want to point out that this time recording the screen while playing DID cause a huge impact on performance. You can really tell we're hitting the limits of this M1 (at least on this MBA), with this game. Without the aforementioned screen recording (via QuickTime), performance was very good, with a resolution of 1920x1080 and about 55-60fps. 1600x900 offered more stability holding the 60fps mark with much more ease. Temperatures when not recording were in the 75-85ºC range, though as you can see in this video, they're always over 90ºC. Same goes with CPU % and RAM %. Very taxing overall on this lean MacBook Air. However, with all the limitations taken into account, I must admit I am profoundly surprised by how well the M1 is handling this game. This performance is the result of two factors: real-time translation of code (x86 to ARM via Rosetta), and translation; and still this M1 is able to perform 1080p 30/60fps. Imagine if this code were native.
