On Saturday of March RSD, Major Brett DeVries was awarded the Joe Foss Award for Excellence by Lt. Gen. (ret.) Douglas Owens, national commander of the Order of the Daedalians, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. DeVries was honored for successfully landing a damaged A-10 aircraft in which a system failure caused the aircraft's canopy to eject and the landing gear to lock in the up position. The incident happened during a training flight in Michigan July 20, 2017. The Order of the Daedalians was founded by World War I pilots to encourage military aviation excellence and to spur American patriotism.
