Developed by GEM in 1988 (not released)

It's not uncommon to see previews and demos of unreleased games come to light, but it's much rarer to see unreleased games that were technically complete resurface after so many years.

That's exactly what happened with Make My Day, an isometric cowboy shoot 'em up, created by Mark Clements (GEM). A preview of the game had been covered by Frank Gasking's excellent "Games That Weren't" website (https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/) back in 2015, but it wasn't until July 2020 that the full version of the game was eventually recovered and made available.

The game was sold to publisher Power House, but was never released. It's not understood why the game was never actually released, but according to Games That Weren't, one theory is the publisher went under and the IP for the game sank with them.

Read more about the game's history, as well as grab yourself a copy of the game over on the Games That Weren't website: https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/gtw64/make-my-day-2/

As for the game itself, it's not a bad effort: graphics and animation are decent enough for the time, and the overall theme feels little like Paper Boy with a six-shooter. The fact you need psychic powers to avoid most of the enemies and hazards makes the thing really frustrating, but the game also features a music track by Matt Gray (Last Ninja 2), which had never been heard before.

All in all Make My Day is an interesting find, so it was a great candidate to longplay!
