As an indie game developer, I love participating in game jams, especially those with a time limit of one week. Recently, I took on the challenge of creating a game in just seven days for the GMTK Game Jam 2021. I decided to use Polymars, the weirdest game engine I had ever tried, and also attempted to learn Pico-8 for its pixel art capabilities. Throughout the week, I documented my progress in a game jam devlog, sharing updates on my experience with Polymars and Pico-8, as well as my struggles with the Godot Engine and its new version, Godot 4. I even tried out a new visual scripting tool called Bolt, which was a lot of fun to experiment with. In the end, my game turned out to be a fun and challenging experience for players, and I was proud of what I had accomplished in just one week. Game jams like the GMTK and Ludum Dare, as well as Brackeys Game Jam 2021.1, provide an excellent opportunity to push myself and try new things, and I'm already looking forward to my next game jam adventure.
