Making Hyrule Castle in Halo 5 Forge! (XSX)
There are some great things about the Halo 5 Forge level editor but like every other editor, there are some things that could be better...
What I enjoy most about using Halo 5 Forge right now is that it is something different that offers me completely new challenges to overcome. Compared to the Far Cry 5 map editor, there are far more limitations but this opens up many more ways to be creative. Here are just a few of the issues I faced when building this scene:
Landscape - Halo 5 Forge doesn't offer any ability to manipulate the terrain, so I had to position my camera and my entire scene in such a way that there were no major obstructions behind the castle, such as mountain tops which are not present in Ocarina of Time.
Lighting - Halo 5 Forge doesn't allow you to manipulate the specific time of day, so half way through building the castle I had to rotate my entire scene so that the light would better emphasize the castle's form.
Shapes - Halo 5 Forge, like many other editors, doesn't offer an unusually tall pointy pyramid shape for the top of towers, so I took a large triangular wedge shape and rotated each one at a specific angle for each tower and embraced the shadows cast by the restrictive time of day system to create the illusion of a pointy pyramid shape.
