Maldita Castilla (Cursed Castle) - Retro Themed Indie Game
8Retro Gamers Rejoice, Maldita Castilla (Cursed Castle) is a retro themed indie game, inspired by the classic Capcom arcade game "Ghouls 'n Ghosts!" The game features a dagger wielding knight, just as in the classic game, although his name is Don Ramiro, while the knight in the original Ghouls 'n Ghosts was named Sir Arthur.
The upgradeable weapons as well are quite similar to those of the original game, and the developer even sought to mimic the scan lines to make it feel even more authentic. The game's sound effects and music were created by GR87: http://www.gr87.com/
The music itself was composed by emulating the original Yamaha YM2203 sound chip, which was often used in arcade games of the Ghouls 'n Ghosts era. The developer, Locomalito is offering the game for free here: http://www.locomalito.com/maldita_castilla.php

The Games Story:
AD 1081, the lands of Tolomera have been cursed, and a heroic Spanish knight, Don Ramiro, along with 3 other knights (Quesada, Don Diego, and Mendoza), have been ordered to put a stop to the nightmare of demons that has been unleashed on their land.
In the game's opening sequence, It is said that Moura was crying her fallen love, when a demon heard her sorrows. After being seduced by demonic beasts, she turned her tears into a magic key that unleashed demons across the Kingdom of Castile.
The game isn't nearly as hard as the classic Ghouls 'n Ghosts, but you'll still find it quite challenging. The developer did an excellent job of bringing the classic back to life in so many ways.
