Mandurah Anzac Day service to go ahead after two years

After two years of no services. Mandurah residents will be able to gather once again to remember the Anzacs. COVID 19 restrictions forced locals to pay their respects a little differently in 2020 and 2021. lighting a candle at dawn and uniting at the end of their driveways to pause and reflect on the diggers who fought for our country. This year will see the community come together again for a dawn and main service at the Mandurah War Memorial. The dawn service will start at 6am at the War Memorial on Leighton Road. followed by a gunfire breakfast at the City of Mandurah RSL on 20 Rouse Road. Greenfields. RSL Mandurah president Dave Mabbs said they were looking forward to their third year of planning finally coming to fruition. “The RSL is excited that we can finally move ahead and honour the service and sacrifice of Australians. New Zealanders and allies.” he said. “It’s an open invitation to the general public. and we hope to see you there.” The main service will start about 10.15am. the parade to step off at 10.20am near the skate park. Hall Park. with parade master Mike directing marchers along the old fire track and into the War Memorial precinct. COVID protocols will be in place for those attending. with attendees encouraged to wear masks and socially distance. For locals who can’t make the services. Mr Mabbs said they can still show their support. “We have a selection of stickers that they can place on their wheelie bins and do their driveway services.” he said. “Some people prefer to pay their respects personally and we encourage that. despite going ahead with our Anzac Day plans this year.” For more information. visit the Mandurah RSL website or call 9581 4781.
