In this weeks episode, we focus on enhancing the well-being and productivity of our settlement by ensuring a balanced diet for our villagers. We kick off by expanding our farmlands, diversifying our crops, and introducing new farming techniques to maximize food production.
Our efforts to alternate crops and create efficient farming systems are crucial in overcoming the challenges of Eichenhau's low fertility soil. We strategically plant barley, flax, and vegetables to provide a varied diet, which not only keeps our villagers healthy but also supports our economic growth.
As we work on securing a stable food supply, we also make significant progress in other areas. We set up a malt house and a tavern, ensuring our villagers have access to ale, which boosts morale and aids in our push towards tier 3 burgage plots. Meanwhile, the surplus flax is processed into linen and gambesons, outfitting our growing army.
Our industrious artisans, including blacksmiths, tailors, cobblers, fletchers, and joiners, continue to develop their crafts, contributing to the settlement’s prosperity. We also expand our burgage plots, creating more vegetable patches and ensuring every villager has access to fresh produce. Not only this, but we plan to add a bunch of new burgage plots to facilitate mass production of eggs via Chicken coop expansions. This will give us more variation in our food supply, keeping our villagers satisfied. We also talk about adding a third food variety, with the instability of meat and berry production being a sticking point, we turn our attention to unlocking the Orchardy development point which allows us to grow apple trees on our plots. This will give Eichenhau three different types of food, fulfilling the needs of our settlers throughout the year.
As we balance our food production, we address the immediate needs of our community and lay the foundation for future expansion. Our strategic planning and efficient resource management help us build a thriving and resilient settlement.
