This is a quick tech video showing Mari displaying two 32K textures (diffuse and bump) on a 1.5M triangle animated model. This is running on Quadro 3800 with 1Gb GPU and 8Gb of system Ram. This demo shows Mari easily handling multiple very large textures on a single UV layout rather than many smaller (4K) textures. Each 32K texture is 4Gb of data.
