"Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games" Review DOUBLE FEATURE: Dated Like a Fine Wine?? -- Drew Doodle!

As a huge Mario and Sonic fan, you better believe tiny Drew wanted a crossover. Yuji Naka and Shigeru Miyamoto had talks about doing a platforming game with both dudes, but they couldn’t figure out a setting that would make the game click. When SEGA got the Beijing Olympics license, the IOC wanted them to use Sonic’s iconic cast, so SEGA went to Nintendo and asked to also use Mario and friends. You might say that sounds like total bull. If Miyamoto and Naka really wanted a good setting, you would think as creatives they would DO THEIR FUCKING JOB? Obviously I’m being disingenuous. Tossing ideas out and coming up with an intuitive, great one just doesn’t happen sometimes no matter how hard you slam your head against the wall. Like, think about how different Sonic and Mario’s games are. So what were my thoughts on this first entry? Nothing. I didn’t play it, but I got the sequel for Christmas in 2010. And I liked it, I was constantly playing this for a few months. But it’s been a decade since I’ve played, so let's explore them and see if they hold up.
