First we take a look at the aerial view of the game vs. the over-the-shoulder viewing. Differences between the two:

Aerial View (aka classic Mario Tennis view)
+ achieved by tilting the 3DS flat, parallel to the floor
+ turns off the gyroscope
+ you have to move your character around with the thumbstick to hit the ball
+ can be viewed in 3D

Over-the-shoulder View (new for the 3DS)
+ achieved by holding the 3DS up, like in front of your face
+ turns on the gyroscope
+ automatically moves your character to where the ball will land
+ de-activates 3D viewing

The "game against Jason" I keep talking about is a tournament that was set up by Nintendo for their Brand Ambassadors (which I'm a part of). I played the match yesterday (May 17th) and won. Next game is on Saturday (tomorrow). I'll let you know how it goes!
