Mark Cerny's career has spanned 40 years, starting off as a games developer, even working on games such as Sega's Sonic 2. But more recently Mark Cerny has found himself as the architect being the Playstation 4, ps4 pro, the playstation 5 and almost certainly the PS5 Pro and upcoming playstation 6.
During a recent interview Cerny was discussing the design process of a console, the focus of both game studios and gamers for higher frame rates in games and says that games simply play better with 60FPS vs 30FPS. He brings up ray tracing, and is very pleased to see how the industry has adopted the technologies, and how it has much promise going forward.
He also believes that console and PCs have their strengths and weaknesses, with the PS5 for example helping push technologies such as NVMe SSDs to become normal for game developers, and of course this brings up the tide for all boats.
Many of Mark Cerny's comments also help provide us insight into both the upcoming playstation 5 pro, which is rumored to feature a custom RDNA 3 gpu sporting ray tracing performance between 2-4x over the base model PS5, and also significant improvements to other aspects of the machine such as a custom upscaling solution powered by AI.
The Playstation 6 is also going to be a dedicated home console says cerny, and with these interview comments we now can get some idea as to the direction cerny and playstation believes that the industry will move in.
