2Marlins selects Yuli Gurriel; Jose Iglesias stays with company
The Marlins will select first baseman Yuli Gurriels contract. GM Kim Ng said during the team radio show today. Both Gurriel and Jose Iglesias recently signed minor league contracts with the Fish. and both had the opportunity yesterday to exercising opt out clauses in those contracts if Miami didnt add them to the opening day roster Ng said Iglesias wont be breaking camp with the team. but the veteran infielder has chosen to pass on his opt out. to remain in the minors. The financial terms of Gurriels minor league deal were not reported. but hell secure a guaranteed salary if Miami officially selects his contract before opening day. Gurriel and the Marlins have been in the for some time Rumor mills connected before he actually put pen to paper.The result was a contract with the underage after the Fish reportedly started out had taken a one year. $2 million deal off the table during the offseason.
