Crystal Dynamics developed Marvel's Avengers, an action-adventure game released on September 4, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Stadia, Windows, and Xbox One. It was also released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 18, 2021, with free upgrades for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. The game is based on the Avengers superhero team from Marvel Comics and incorporates elements from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the comic books. The plot follows Kamala Khan, an Inhuman teenager who gains superpowers during a catastrophic event that leads to the disbandment of the Avengers. Five years later, Kamala embarks on a quest to reassemble the Avengers to combat a new enemy. The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes, with an online co-op mode allowing players to assemble their own team of heroes. The initial roster includes Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow, with additional characters added in free post-launch updates. Each hero has customizable costumes and can upgrade their abilities using a skill tree. While the game received mixed reviews upon release, with praise for its combat, graphics, and story but criticism for its repetition, lack of content, user interface, and technical issues, it was ultimately a commercial failure. Support for the game will end on September 30, 2023, with the last content update released on March 31, 2023.
