Trivia about The Illusive man:
- The Illusive Man may be inspired by the Cigarette Smoking Man from the television series The X-Files. Like the Illusive Man, the Smoking Man is a member of a shadowy organization (The Syndicate) who alternately aids and opposes the protagonists of the series in their endeavors.
- According to Mass Effect game director Casey Hudson, the Illusive Man had his origins in an idea for the game's DLC, of a character "who was so powerful that they told world (or galactic) leaders what to do, even though they held no public office." His name came from "an idea I had for a name for one of our early graphics engines - Illusive, a bit of a play on words.
- Sheen mentions in interviews in the Mass Effect 2 Documentary DVD that he would not trust the Illusive Man, and that he thinks the character is a "horrible man"
- While voicing lines that involved the Illusive Man smoking in cinematics, Sheen would suck on a pen to simulate smoking since he doesn't smoke.
- According to The Art of the Mass Effect Universe, the Illusive Man was first intended to turn into a Reaper creature during the final battle in Mass Effect 3. Eventually, this plan was scrapped since the developers wanted to give players the satisfaction of fighting a character they know rather than a random creature, highlighting the fact that the Illusive Man's weapon is his intelligence, not his physical strength.
- The Illusive Man's real name "Jack Harper" was first revealed in the comic book mini-series Mass Effect: Evolution.
