SAM is a Simulated Adaptive Matrix artificial intelligent construct that can interface with a real brain and provide helpful abilities to those connected with it. SAM's real physical location is inside the Hyperion spaceship and when Scott Ryder is inside the Tempest spaceship, he can view and interface with SAM via a 3D terminal. Normally Scott Ryder can just talk directly to SAM via his brain interface, but to see SAM's bluish virtual presence he goes to this virtual terminal. It also provides a way for you to ask questions to SAM when not normally within gameplay mode. One of the options is for SAM to tell jokes, and video shows the 5 jokes SAM says in the game.
