Tips for getting the Steam Version of Mass Effect to work [Win 7]:
Step 1: Download 1.2 Patch Directly from Bioware

Step 2: Changes needed to make Mass Effect run on Windows 7 [32/64];
Go to [drive letter]:\steamlibrary\steamapps\common\masseffect
Right Click on MassEffectLauncher, set as 'Run as Administrator', click apply.
Step 3: Return to your desktop, right click on your Steam shortcut
and set as 'Run as Administrator'.
You should now be able to play Mass Effect Steam version on your system!

About Mass Effect:
Mass Effect is a sci-fi themed action role-playing game, played in a third-person perspective. This first game focuses on the protagonist, Commander Shepard, and his or her quest to stop the rogue agent from leading an army of sentient machines, called the Geth, to conquer the galaxy. During the pursuit, Shepard learns about a far greater threat... can we stop it?
Mal's Random Musing: So after the success of tremendous RPGs like Baldurs Gate, Bioware set out to create an entirely new LP and the result was a sci-fi action RPG that broke the mold and the record books. A massive (pun intended) success, Mass Effect is a top notch RPG. If you enjoy compelling military action stories and/or sci-fi then the story presented in this game should be more than enough to keep you interested. Add in interesting combat, interactions with non-player characters that feel true to life and you are in for a galactic sized adventure. While the game has aged well, I decided a new coat of paint via some mods were in order.
