Step 1 - Login to your Vultr or Other VPS via Putty

Download Putty here
https://www.putty.org

Get Vultr VPS here - highly recommended for VPS
https://www.vultr.com/?ref=7299584

Step 2 - Login as Root

Step 3 - Change the default password provided to you from Vultr or other vps

Command = passwd

Step 4 - Add a New User and password
Command =adduser nameofyournewuser

Step 5 Exit and Login again with putty - use your new user to login

Command = Exit

SET UP AND INSTALL YOUR LINUX FIREWALL

Step 6
Command = apt-get update

Step 7
Command = apt=get install ufw

Step 8 - Enter each command in this order exactly

ufw allow ssh/tcp
ufw limit ssh/tcp
ufw allow 9999/tcp
ufw logging on
ufw enable

Last Step - Confirm your firewall is working

command = ufwstatus

command = exit
