KC Chess was developed by Kevin Phillips and Craig S. Bruce wrote for their undergraduate final project at the University of New Brunswick (Canada) in 1990. The program was written in Turbo Pascal for MS-DOS Computers with 640K of RAM and VGA graphics.

Level values indicate two things: The number indicates search depth in ply, which is a half-move in chess. The plus sign (+) after the level number indicates "position evaluation" is turned on, which takes into consideration more than just material value of the pieces.
