This game kinda blindsided me w just how amazing it is. One of my favorites of all time now

After making this I have some more thoughts on the whole death coin sys n what role it plays in this game. So this whole brainstorm is just me thinking out loud some more on the topic.
I streamed a full playthrough the other day where I died maybe 6 times, used 0 continues(No death coins), n 1st tried 90% of the stages/bosses. So I was FLYING through the game w no stops but still took ~4hrs. Wooof that’s a long time to be consistent. Sifu for ex another game w an exponential death penalty I could finish in 1hr. So the marathon is more manageable n in line to classic arcade action games. But thing about sifu you were freely allowed to replay stages to better/correct your performance if needed to alleviate the death penalty in that game. In Maximo that’s not possible. It costs money to revisit past stages n if you mess up again in attempt to better your run - this will only make things worse. Now I’m not saying this game should be shorter or even made easier. To me it’s absolutely perfect in every way n reason why I wanted to 1cc it. It’s just the death coin sys for a 4hr long game is bit iffy for me. Like sor4 for ex I did my 1cc run n by the end of my 2hr playthrough it was getting lil taxing haha especially on mania. So you can only imagine how it must feel having to 1cc a 4hr game in comparison bc any death is a huge set back.
Hmmm it’s very interesting to think about since no game really uses this mechanic. Honestly I’m just spitballin too trying to make sense of it myself. So it’s hard to really know how this should be handled since it’s such a niche thing. But after finishing the game again the more I think the intention was to put you in a situation so bad (too expensive to continue) that you’ll just start a fresh new save entirely instead. From here theeeen you’ll play lot more clean in the beginning which lets you see the later stages w more resources this time. Since you died less means more abilities on hand n more cheaper attempts. If that’s what they planned for then that works too bc that’s how it felt when I replayed the game w all the knowledge/skill I gained along the way. So don’t worry too much 𝗂̷𝖿̷ when you die a lot. It’s just part of the learning process
