The Griffin 1S is a Steiner variant developed to make their Griffin's better suit a more mid ranged engagement. Removing the PPC and replacing the LRM10 with a LRM 5, allowed engineers to equip the Griffin 1S with more energy weapons. Coming equipped now with a single large laser and two medium lasers, the 1S suddenly becomes a more ferocious combatant at mid range and less reliant on keeping distance from foes. The remaining free weight was filled with extra heatsinks to help with the new weapons.

I personally don't mind the 1S though I think it loses some of it's personaility with the laser loadout. It certainly means a marked improvement in regards to custom energy setups though the reliance on the right arm can be something of a detriment if you take a bad hit to that area. Overall though it's a decent Griffin, but then the Griffin was always a decent medium on and off the table.
