House Marik took a more sedate approach to their Griffin upgrades than Steiner did with the 1S. Rather than removing exisiting weapons and spending large amounts of money on expensive redesigns, Marik technicians and engineers used recently discovered lostech instead. The lostech upgrades which include double heatsinks, endo chassis and a XL engine allowed the enginnering team to upgrade the older LRM 10 to a LRM 20. The PPC was upgraded to a ER model and to help deal with infantry the 3M was equipped with a single small laser.

On the face of it the 3M isn't that much of an upgrade the extra firepower of the LRM combined with a PPC that has no minimum range allows it to act more freely on the field when the dynamics of combat change.

Basically if you like the regular Griffin then the 3M is a Star League upgrade for the better. The extra energy hardpoint provided by the small laser means you are less reliant on protecting your right torso as much and the overall design is a fine 55 ton medium. I prefer the stock loadout but it can be customised quite well and I recommend giving it a try if you're in the mood to master a new medium.
