READ THE DESCRIPTION FOR A BETTER GUIDE!

Sorry about the vertical scale & background noises! This video is very old and used to have texts (annotations), but annotation has since been disabled by Youtube.

The main purpose of the video was simply a guide (and a very poor video guide I'll admit) and not for gameplay. I basically kept skipping turns until I got the event I needed. I even used money cheat via console commands to stay alive if necessary.

Game: Medieval 2: Total War (Not Medieval 2: Total War Kingdom)
Subject: How to get to North & South America

Did you know that at the far left of the map, there's a few regions of North & South America? You can sail to the new world, but only with late-game ships. You also have to wait a lot of turns for a specific late-game event called "The World is Round." As shown here 2:15

The amount of turns you need to wait for this event will vary. It may take somewhere between 140-180 turns, maybe more or maybe less, so Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV).

========================================================
Ship & Building Requirement:

The following factions that (obviously) CANNOT sail to & from America: Rebels, Mongols, Timurids, and Aztecs

Below is a list of ships that are required by specific factions to sail to & from America:
- Carrack (Requires a Naval Drydock): The Byzantium Empire, Denmark, England, France, Holy Roman Empire, Hungary, Milan, Papal States, Russia, Scotland, Sicily, Spain, Portugal, and Venice.
- Baghlah (Requires a Naval Drydock): The Turks, Moors, and Egypt.
- Caravel*** (Requires a Dockyard) and the Grande Carrack (Requires a Naval Drydock): Portugal and Spain.

Note:
- These ships can only be constructed by a Naval Drydock.
***However, Caravel is the only ship unique to Spain & Portugal that can be build with a Dockyard. A Dockyard can be build in a Citadel (For castle) & Large City (For City/Village). Portugal & Spain can get a head start in exploration!
- You can only build a Naval Drydock in Citadel (For castle) & Huge City (For City/Village).
- A Naval Drydock can't be build until you encounter "The World is Round" event.

========================================================
Steps:

You have to keep playing until Turn 140-180ish for an event called "The World is Round."

Step 1) You'll need a coastal city/castle (near the ocean/sea) that is upgraded to the latest tier, which are:
- Citadel (for castle)
- Huge City ( for city/village).

You have 140-180ish turns to reach that.

Step 2) In the meantime, make sure your coastal city/castle has the latest coastal building, which would be a Dockyard.
- If you are Portugal or Spain, Caravel is sufficient.
- For other factions, a Naval Drydock is needed. It will be available to build once you encounter the "The World is Round" event.

Step 3) Around Turn 140 to 180-ish, you should encounter the "World is Round" event, which allows you to upgrade your Dockyard to a Naval Drydock. If you did not encounter the event, then you might have to play even longer, or it could be bugged. YMMV when you'll encounter the event. As shown here 2:15

Step 5) Depending on what faction you are playing as, these are the ships you need to build: Carrack, Grand Carrack, Caraval, or Baghlah. As shown here 3:00 & 9:22

Step 6) Sail to North America (South America is also located right below).
- You cannot travel to America with any ships that are not listed! If your fleet is mixed with older ships, the fleet will refuse to sail further until you remove them! As shown here 3:47
- You CANNOT way-point all the way to America because of fog of war, so you have to move the ship little by little each turn, as shown here 4:15
========================================================
Idea:

- Consider gifting some European settlements to the Aztec. Maybe you can reenact the Sunset Invasion!

I have not tested this far to see if the Aztec would expand and fight in Europe or would just sit back.
