Meek Mill possible release
A former Philadelphia police officer is accusing one of his ex-colleagues of lying under oath a decade ago in an attempt to put Meek Mills behind bars.
Philly.com reports Jerold Gibson filed a sworn statement Wednesday disputing the claims of Mill's arresting officer, Reggie Graham. Graham was the only witness to testify against Mills during the 2008 trial.
Gibson accused Graham of falsely accusing Mills of pointing a gun at police as they tried to arrest him outside of a suspect drug stash house, according to the report.
In the wake of Gibson's sworn statement, Mill's lawyers have started a new push to have their client freed.
"The guilty verdicts were expressly based on the court crediting Officer Graham's testimony," Mill lawyer Peter Goldberger wrote to Judge Genece E. Brinkley in a motion filed Wednesday, according to the report. "Without Graham's testimony, [he] could not have been convicted on any count."
