Remember Shadow Blade? Remember how it was one of the best weapons in Mega Man 3, for being able to aim every which way, having lots of ammo, and still also being stronger than the buster? What if we gave it wall-tracking abilities and let it stay out for longer too? Yeah, sounds reasonable. We'll call it the Yo-Yo Cutter. It'll sell like hotcakes.

By now, you might begin to suspect that I've been picking stages based largely on which ones play to which weapons' strengths, rather than taking the boss weakness into account. Yep, guilty as charged! There were lots of weapons that literally couldn't go in weakness order thanks to ammo or midboss complications, so rest assured I didn't have as much freedom as you'd think, but all the same I jumped at the opportunity to take Yo-Yo Cutter here when it presented itself. Tank Man's stage is just plain rigorous. It's very enemy-focused in addition to all the pits and spikes, so having a powerful, no-nonsense offensive tool was handy. And it comes with optional nonsense too! The combo of terrain tracking and delayed boomeranging really works wonders on the enemies particular to Tank Man's stage. The boss fight itself was a bit more of a trial than expected thanks to the Yo-Yo Cutter's range limitations finally biting back, but a little fancy footwork never hurt anyone.
