Meghan Markle and Prince Harry felt a part of 'community' with Canadians
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fled to Vancouver Island in 2019 to recover from media attacks.
To unwind, the couple spent a few months away from the turmoil with their son Archie and their two dogs.
In his memoir 'Spare,' Harry writes that they were warmly greeted by the villagers and that they were regarded as normal human beings.
"We went out timidly, drove down the road towards the neighbouring settlement, and strolled along the pavement like individuals in a horror movie," he writes. What will be the source of the attack? Which way should I go? But, this did not occur. Nobody freaked out. They didn't look at each other. They didn't pull out their phones. Everyone understood, or had the impression, that we were going through something."
"They gave us space while also making us feel welcome, with a pleasant grin and a wave," he continues. They made us feel like we were a part of a family. They made us feel at ease."
