This is it, the final story of the game and by far the hardest. Truly, it is hell.
Boss Rush is a completely different beast from the regular stories in the game. Most importantly, you do not get a difficulty choice at the beginning, as they are set to their own brutal difficulty in which your enemies will surprise you with completely new movesets that the player can't access and gimmicks that go beyond the scope of the usual fighting game. Some things return from previous entries in the series while others are entirely new.
On a first playthrough, and for the sake of the story, Boss Rush locks you into a specific character, but after beating a Rush for the first time, they can be played with any character.
You better learn to use the characters you are stuck with here, or you will struggle for a while to survive all the chaos.
Melty Blood: Type Lumina is another installment of French Bread and Type Moon's Tsukihime fighting game series. This entry is a reboot to go along with the remake of Tsukhime itself, which entails many big changes, like
- a revamp of the roster, getting rid of most duplicate characters and characters that did not appear in Tsukihime proper,
- a revamp of the fighting system, getting rid of the more complex moon phases of Actress Again, opting to give characters auto combos and simplifying arc drive, last arc and shield mechanics and
- an overall graphical upgrade among other changes.
I have things I like and dislike about all these aspects, but the loss of some characters and how some characters have changed are probably my biggest gripes with the game - that being said, it is still a very fun game - it just required me to rethink all my opinions about it as opposed to just being able to get back into a Melty Blood mindset as with previous entries in the series.
For this playthrough, I have recorded my first attempt at every character's story mode. I did each character's mission mode right before each recording to get a feel for them and their moves, but you still might notice me discovering new combos and techniques as well as the evolution of my playstyle when I am actually being put in front of an enemy. We are starting out on Normal mode, but that will also change eventually as I get more comfortable with the game. Note that because of the blind nature of this playthrough, my opinions on the characters may be different from more experienced players.
