Second track in the ‘Special 3’ trinity is ‘Memories of Endless Struggles’, which uses ‘Memory / Bounding Through Time’ from Super Paper Mario as a base for its own spin on the melody. This track is also a variant of the ‘I Love You’ series of tracks, and therefore, it also makes reference to the ‘Asterisk A.T.O.M.’ OST.
The inspiration behind this track came from the idea of wanting to make some sort of Battle Theme against those struggles that come from wanting to let go but being unable to. This time, the mechanical gears represent the literal expression of ‘turning back the clock’, and thus, time, as the battle repeats itself over and over without any resolution. The second half of the song serves more as part of the resolution of wanting to keep moving on, despite it seeming useless, until the moment one is able to break free from the cycle, and reminisce of it all as a Memory to hold on to, or not.
I like to hear and compose music I can run to, as if the world’s collapsing behind me.
