This is the first of a new series that I've had on the back burner for a while now; 2 years to be more exact. The idea came from combining two of my interests together: driving time-lapse videos and old school racers. The result is my unique hypnotic way of showing off one of my favorite racing games. Expect more videos like this to come.
The 1996 Special Edition of The Need for Speed featured 9 tracks. The original 3 (City, Coastal, and Alpine) from the 1994 Panasonic 3DO version each consisted of 3 segments and were the only point-to-point courses in the game. Later versions of TNFS added circuit courses with Lost Vegas as a bonus track. Featured only in the SE were 2 new additional tracks, Burnt Sienna and Transtropolis.
Another new feature for the SE included an option to change the time of day, which I've demonstrated in the third segment of the Coastal track and Autumn Valley Speedway.
I've always hailed the first NFS as one of the harder titles in the series to master, what with its narrow and twisted roads coupled with driving physics that walked a fine line between sim and arcade. There were many that strove during its time for both realism and fun, but for me this was the first racing game I owned that got everything right.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any vomit-inducing motion sickness that may ensue from watching this.
Enjoy the ride. ;)
