I swear, this game is "The Room", but for video games. Created by FromSoftware, the same studio that would later go on to make the Dark Souls series, Metal Wolf Chaos premiered in Japan back in 2004, during the height of American post-9/11 ultra-patriotism, and it plays with a number of the more over-the-top tropes from back in the day. Sadly, because of the expected backlash from an American audience, the Xbox original did not see a release outside of the island nation. Fortunately, we now have the HD edition, Metal Wolf Chaos XD, and it's so freakin' fantastic!
Today, we're going to try to finish the game. The East Coast missions are fine, but New York City slowed me down quite a bit, sadly. After them, we have the string of Richard missions, and the memes will overflow.
Here's the plot in a shellnut:
The vice president has conducted a coup d'état and taken over the USA. Now, with the help of his psychopathic secretary, the president, piloting a mech (because why not?) must rescue each major American city on his way to taking back the White House.
Here's my Metal Wolf Chaos XD drinking game:
Take a sip any time that:
Michael screams Richard's name;
Richard screams Michael's name;
Michael reminds us that he's the president of the United States;
the American flag shows up during a cutscene;
we are given "the password" during a cutscene;
someone says "coup d'état";
Richard reminds us as to what his name is;
Michael says "Whatever";
Michael asks how we like him now; and
Peter MacDonald reminds us that, yes, the pen is still mightier than the sword.
DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING:
Take a sip whenever
there is an explosion;
Jodi is a psychopath;
someone says something funny; and
whenever the game lags.
Down an entire bottle whenever this game isn't the most American thing that you've ever seen in your life! (Tea references do not count.)
