0"Metal Slug XX" (or "Metal Slug: Double X) is the PSP update to the original DS Metal Slug, "Metal Slug 7", released in Japan, Asia, the U.S., and Europe between 2009 and 2010. The game was also released for Xbox Live Arcade. Adhearing to the long standing Metal Slug tradition of utilizing beautiful hand-drawn 2D sprites and animations and blending them with pure hardcore military action and humor, Metal Slug XX has changed very little since the series' debut in 1996, making it one of the most staunch followers of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" policy. Metal Slug 7 / XX is the first Metal Slug title that was never released in the Arcades. Metal Slug XX is mostly the same as the DS game, but with slightly better audio/visuals, co-op play, a few extra secrets amd downloadable content such as adding the exclusive character, Leona Heidern, to the roster (bringing the total number of playable characters to seven). It does not feature the constant map found in the DS game.
In the game, you get to play as Marco, Tarma, Fiolina, Eri, Ralf (KoF / Ikari Warriors / etc.), Clark (KoF / Ikari Warriors / etc.), and Leona (KoF / Ikari - Leona Gekitohen / Gals Fighter / etc.) who each have their own special traits that can be utilized to suit your play style. Once again, our heroes are out to stop General Morden and his scheme to enact another coup d'état on the government. While he is quickly stopped during the first level, he somehow gets help from an advanced militia from the future which makes him more formidable than ever. The game has your standard weapons and slugs, but features a new weapon (Thunder Shot) and three new Slugs to ride (Slug Truck, Slug Gigant, and Heavy Armor Slug). The game features seven stages and a Combat School which presents many additional challenges for the player to complete (more become available as you progress through the game). Outside of these things, it's more or less good old Metal Slug.
