Hey everyone. I have been trying to record Metro 2033 for a critique on my main channel, and it has proven to be a pain in the dick to do. I thought I would just play the game and use the exact same method that I have used for recording all PC games in the past. Well, when I tried that, I had stuttering in the recording, which is weird because this is a 13 year old game. I have a Ryzen 9 5900X with 64 gig of RAM and a 1660TI. My PC should not have this problem at all.

I ran MSI afterburner while playing the game to see what the problem might be. It turns out this 13 year old game had seemingly random moments where the CPU usage would jump up to the high 90s for some reason. Thiis means that this game is poorly optimized, but I thoguth that it would not be that big of a deal to get around. I could just lower the graphical settings, correct?

Well that did not solve the rpoblem either. I tried every combonation of graphical settings that I could, even going down to the lowest possbile settings I could. Thye GPU usage still jumped to the high 90s. I even found a way to force it to use vsycn, which isn't even in the graphical options. That did nothing, as well.

After that. I downloaded the Redux version. This problem occurred less in that version of the game than it did in the orignal, but it still happened. I spent money on a better version of the game just to try to get rid of stutter that didn't show up on my screen during gameplay but did in the recording, and it still did not work. I, also, installed it to my M.2 drive to see if loading might be causing an issue. This did not work either.

I wound up opting for a work arround here. I have my graphics card running through my old Clearclick HDMI capture box to my monitor, and this finally solved the stuttering issue. It does, however, have issues of its own. The highest resolution it has is 1080P. It is 30 FPS and not 60. It tends to pixelate when the action gets heavy. I am not happy about this, and all of it is why I moved on from this capture device. It does not stutter, though. You can find my review of the device here:

With the footage off of the capture device, it is 1080p and 30 FPS. It, also, ends the recording at 30 minutes and starts a new file. I have to string the videos together in Sony Vegas and render it out as one single file if I want to upload anything longer than half an hour. This does let me render the footage at 60 FPS at least. I will be doing this on this channel. I am streaming it while recording, though, so you can see the Streamed 60 FPS version on my stream archive channel. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed.
