Metro 2033 is a 2010 first-person shooter survival horror video game developed by 4A Games and published by THQ. The story is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel of the same name, and is set in the ruins of Moscow following a nuclear war, where the survivors are forced to live in underground Metro tunnels. Players control Artyom, a man who must save his home station from the dangers lurking within the Metro. In the game, players encounter human and mutant enemies, who can be killed with a variety of firearms. Some areas of the metro tunnels, in addition to the Earth's surface, are covered in fallout radiation, and the player must wear a gas mask to explore these areas.

Metro 2033 was the debut title for 4A Games, whose founders have previously worked at GSC Game World on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. 4A was chosen by Glukhovsky to be the game's developer due to the team's location in Eastern Europe and its expertise in developing first-person shooters. Glukhovsky gave 4A a lot of freedom while developing the game. The studio's goal was to focus on atmosphere and story, having been largely inspired by Half-Life 2. Due to this, the team intentionally avoided including a multiplayer component to ensure the scope of the game stayed focused. The game was powered by the studio's own proprietary 4A Engine. It was first announced in 2006 as Metro 2033: The Last Refuge.

It was released in March 2010 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. The game received positive reviews from critics upon release. The game was praised for its horror elements, detailed environments and appealing plot, but it was criticized for its buggy artificial intelligence and gameplay. The game was profitable for THQ, selling more than 1.5 million copies by June 2012, though the publisher admitted shortcomings while marketing the game. Following THQ's bankruptcy, Deep Silver acquired the rights to the franchise and published a sequel, Metro: Last Light, in 2013. A compilation of both titles was released in 2014 as Metro Redux for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A second sequel, Metro Exodus, was released in 2019.
