After a rather underwhelming final sequence, here we are. Have I mentioned before how much I hate the "situation that a character couldn't have escaped from" then "character magically escaped from that situation" trope? It just cheapens all writing, since the assumption becomes that every character survives everything.

Anyway, Metroid Prime 3. It's kind of bad. It has no sense of a connected world like the previous two games do, and it ends up feeling more linear than normal for a metroidvania as a result. There's a bizarre amount of backtracking with slow animations. The phazon mechanic is an "easy" button that trivializes any fight you use it in, and the flat upgrade nature of the beams combined with the removal of things like the super missile means that combat is fairly tedious.

Using primehack spared me from the motion controls, but I remember those being terrible even when I played it back in the day.
