AM2R might be the most well-known fan remake of Metroid 2, but it's not the only one. Other dedicated Metroid fans tried creating their own remakes of Metroid 2 throughout the mid-2000s, believing that Nintendo wasn't interested in remaking Metroid 2 themselves. While AM2R was the only Metroid 2 remake to ever be completed, there were others, such as Metroid 2 Remixed, MTR, and Metroid Extinction. Among all these attempts at a Metroid 2 fan remake was one that had the potential to rival even the official Metroid releases themselves.

Before Samus Returns, there was AM2R; before AM2R, there was Metroid: SR388 by Von Richter - the Metroid 2 fan remake that never was.

This is the untold story of Metroid: SR388, its ambitious vision, unique development history, and the vast legacy it ended up leaving behind.
