The Flash is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character of the same name. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Double Dream, and the Disco Factory, and distributed by Warner Bros., it is the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film was directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which brings unintended consequences.
Barry Allen, aka The Flash, experiences a complex time-travel adventure after saving his mother from death. This action leads to a split in the timeline, where he encounters an alternate version of himself and meets an older, future Barry who tries to save his world from a Kryptonian invasion led by General Zod. Barry, along with the alternate version of himself and Bruce Wayne (Batman), attempts to assemble a version of the Justice League to counter Zod's threat. However, the multiverse starts collapsing due to their time manipulation.
They rescue Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) from a Kryptonian facility and battle Zod's forces, but eventually face defeat. Despite numerous attempts to change the timeline, Barry realizes the tragic events are inevitable. An older, future Barry, who is determined to save his world, confronts them and triggers a showdown, leading to his own demise.
Barry returns to the present, accepting the past's unchangeable nature and allowing his mother's death to occur. However, he manages to exonerate his wrongfully imprisoned father. The film emphasizes the complexities of time travel, the multiverse, and the unintended consequences of altering history.
