Micro Mages via 3DSEN playthrough
4Doubling up today, showcasing the last of the NES games that I have been saving - Micro Mages - and doing so in an emulator that makes the game really shine - 3DSEN. 3DSEN is just an NES Emulator that has various profiles that alter the 2D sprites into 3D. Background, characters, items, all of them an be rendered in 3 dimensions instead of 2, all done as an enhanced emulator. It uses the same ROM files as any other. Now, it can't dynamically do that for any game, they have to be adjusted individually, so it has limited capability, but beyond the official releases there's a bunch of fan profiles that you can use as well. The quality varies from profile to profile, but it's really neat and can add a lot to the games graphically.
And Micro Mages was one of the games that really shines in the engine. It looks amazing with the pseudo-3D. The environments really pop. And the game itself? Well, it's a lot of fun! More so than I expected it to be. Starts off fairly easy, easing you into the challenge ahead. It never gets overly difficult, but challenging enough. I was able to beat it, by going just a bit long today. The game gets a big thumbs up from me.
And that brings the journey of NES on Steam to a close, for now. I have now played every single NES game on Steam that I am aware of. Actual NES games, not Unity ports. The requirement was it has to be the actual ROMs. And as we've seen over the last three Decembers, there are quite a number of them. Most of them are a lot of fun as well.
