Microsoft Flight Simulator Dev Q&A Recap: World Update 7: Australia, Southern Cross & PMDG
Just wanted to share a few key notes from today's Dev Q&A, which was the last one for the year. Just before we get started, what you're seeing right now is me flying from Lukla to Mount Everest with live weather at the time of recording while using Orbx new Himalaya Mesh. I will at one point later on turn off the live weather so that you can see the beauty of these mountains without the added snow.

So, later today, we'll be getting Sim Update 7, which is also known as Game of the Year Edition, and the option to get the Reno Air Races. Both will be available for download around 8AM Pacific Time, which is 4PM GMT. The Sim Update 7 download size will be roughly 18GB.
The major news coming out this dev Q&A is that World Update 7 will be Australia! There will be more photogrammetry cities added than in any other World Update. In addition, Microsoft has partnered with Orbx for the next Local Legends, which was first introduced in the last World Update with the JU-52. The Australian aircraft will be the Southern Cross, which is the Fokker monoplane Australian aviator Charles Kingsford Smith, also known as Smithy, flew in the first-ever trans-Pacific flight from Oakland, California to Brisbane, Australia. Both World Update 7 and the Southern Cross, which will be a payware aircraft, will release on Jan 25th, 2022.
The other major news to note was Robert Randazzo from PMDG announcing that the DC-6 will be coming to the Marketplace next week with no differences between the PC and Xbox versions. He also stated that 737 and the rest of their products should release in the Marketplace. Still no word on a release date for the 737. There are a total of 15 products in PMDG's pipeline for MSFS, with Robert confirming the 737, 747 and 777 product lines in addition to teasing a 757 line.
The next sim update, which will be #8, will be mostly bug crunching. Jorg did mention that it'll also bring an update to the Marketplace, which they dub internally as Marketplace 2.0.
They guys also introduced the new partnership for gliders.
That pretty much wraps up the Q&A! If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe to the channel to keep informed on new developments!
Thanks a lot for watching! Happy flying!
