Mighty Switch Force Hyper Drive Edition *loudly inhales*, is a Puzzle and reaction time platformer. Each level got the Goal to capture 5 prisoner that escaped from the crashed police car. So each level is a closed "room" where you have to avoid obstacles, destroy monsters and collect the 5 prisoners and then go to the robot that lands on a spot in the level. The game has no time limit, but always teases you with a timer that goes up and a PAR time, which you can beat. I'm sure that you will get some bonuses when you do so, but i never did that in time, or tried it. This is my first time playing this game, but i was intrigued, since it's from the same creators of shantae. It isn't as popular, but i can see why. The game fills a specific niche which isn't for everyone.
The puzzle part of the game is the following. Your character can't jump very high or far, but in speaking of Mario Maker 2, you have a permanent ON/OFF Block bound to your controller, and you can switch these blocks on the fly. The game pauses halve of a second when you do that. The blocks you switch like this already exist in the level and they have different variations. What i have seen so far is a regular block that goes on (fully visible) or off (translucent), when switching these blocks to on, you shouldn't stand in such a block, since it flings you towards the screen and you lose a heart (you have 3 hearts). But you can use this feature to defeat enemies with it and usually you have to use them like this, since some locked doors only open, when you defeated a certain enemy. Another type of ON/OFF Blocks are a bit like these blast barrels in Donkey Kong Country. When you stand in front of such a block while it's off and then switch to on, you're stuck inside this block, but get nearly immediatly blast into the direction the arrow points. While you fly like this you have no control of your movement, just the switch button works, until you hit a surface. This mechanic often means, that you have to blast yourself of enemies from block to block and hit the switch button in the right time, to get cought by the next block. This is where the reaction time comes in. And the third type of block is a bit weird. It comes in a blue and a red variation. And they switch on and off like normally. But if you stand on such a block, it "locks" itself from switching. Means if you stand on such a block (which is ON) and hit the switch button it stays on. You have to use that mechanic, to synconise these "Lock Blocks" in the way you need, to progress in the level.
