I originally wrote this back in 2007 and I don't really write in this style anymore. I was listening to a lot of death metal and 20th century Russian classical music at that time, so this is a pretty weird combination of influences. I recently modernized it with some of my newer writing techniques but I probably won't make another one like this again. I generally prefer to use chromaticism in a more melodic way these days.

Some music history context: The extremely dissonant chord in the intro and bridge is called the Petrushka chord by Igor Stravinski. Guitar 1 is playing a major chord, while Guitar 2 plays another major chord (1st inversion) but a tritone apart. These two traditionally "happy chords" clash horribly when stacked like this. Synthetic chords are very interesting.

I also use some of the octatonic scale (often used by Alexander Scriabin) and the whole tone scale, both of which have an extremely vague tonal center, if any.

If you have not listened to any 20th century Russian classical music, you are seriously missing some out on some beautiful music.
