Instead of the old system of just giving "heavily" armored tanks a frontal armor hitbox with 1000 health, I simply hard coded an armor/penetration system. However, it is not simply just a "if penetration is greater than armor, do damage" system. There are some nuances:

If penetration is over triple the armor, it will do half damage from the over-penetration penalty. If the penetration is at least ninety percent of the armor, it will do one fourth damage from denting the armor and reducing structural integrity. Also, armor piercing shells have the ability to lose penetration over time, making armor more effective at long range, and shells can have custom hit sounds for bouncing, penetrating, or denting armor.
