DESCRIPTION ▼
In big news for the MiSTer this week, multiple new cores released - and there was also some sad news for PS1 lovers.
The MiSTer project aims to replicate gaming hardware using FPGA (field programmable gate arrays) -- basically trying to replicate consoles, arcades and old PCs at the hardware level. In many cases this results in cycle-accurate versions of these systems including the SNES, Genesis, NES, etc
The long awaiting CPS2 core from Jotego has been released as a public beta. This refers to the Capcom System 1/1.5/2 arcade boards which includes games such as Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha, Marvel vs Capcom, Alien vs Predator, and many more. Access to updated cores are available on Jotego's patreon: https://www.patreon.com/topapate
In sad news, the equally anticipated PS1 core being developed by Laxer3A and Ultra has been put into chaos due to a falling out between the developers. Prototype builds of the PS1 were up and running with a playable version expected late in 2021. Laxer3A has now left the scene and will shut down the well subscribed patreon at the end of the billing month. All current work from Laxer3A is now available on GitHub with the finishing of the project over to Ultra
In cool retro news, a 2-player build of the Game Boy/Game Boy Color/Game Boy Advance core has been made available. Developed by Robert Peip, it is essentially running two copies of the GB/GBC/GBA simulateneously and then displaying on the screen side-by-side.
