Mizūmi (Instrumental Ver.) - Umihara Kawase Style Original Song
This is an original song composed by me in a style inspired by Atsuhiro Motoyama's work on the Umihara Kawase series, it is particularly inspired by his work in Umihara Kawase Shun and Sayonara Umihara Kawase
For this, i tried to analyse what MIDI hardware and other instrument sources Atsuhiro Motoyama used, and i also tried my best to replicate common composition patterns used by him
I am a big fan of Atsuhiro Motoyama, it is a shame he has not composed for many recent games, i would love to hear more from him
Alongside ZUN and Jake Kaufman, he is one of my favourite VGM composers of all time
Unlike ZUN though, not many people make music in "Atushiro-style", so i wanted to start doing that
If you also like Atushiro Motoyama's style, and you are a musician, please consider trying to make Atsuhiro-style music too, i would love to compare and share insights!
Things i used:
SC-88pro
Korg Trinity
JV-1080
Serum (for manual instrument recreation attempts)
HALion 6 (this is cheating...it just has nice electric pianos i wanted to use in the background)
Oh yeah... and Mizūmi (湖) means lake in Japanese, i thought it'd be funny, because in Umihara Kawase, you have songs that reference the words "river" and "sea" in the titles, but not "lake"
Gameplay footage is from UmiharaKawaseRuns
...Also, can you find the hidden Fleentstones notes?
